July 19, 1921 - February 8, 2010

Russell Paul Brignac, 88, formerly of Nederland and Houston passed away, Monday, February 8, 2010 at home in Beaumont with his wife, Dorothy, by his side.   Funeral Service will be 10:00 AM, Thursday, February 11, 2010 at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic church in Nederland with Deacon Dallas Broussard officiating. Entombment will follow at  3:00 P.M. in Forest Lawn Cemetery, 8701 Almeda-Genoa Road, in Houston,under the direction of Broussard’s in Nederland. A gathering of family and friends will be 5:00-8:00 PM with a scriptural rosary to be recited at 6 PM Wednesday at the mortuary.   He was born in Gramercy, Louisiana on July 19, 1921 to Joseph and Martha Brignac.  He was born the third of seven children.  He graduated from Lutcher High School in Gramercy.   He joined the Civilian Conservation Corp building parks in California.  Later, he joined the US Army and in 1943 he arrived in Brisbane, Australia and was later transfer to Sydney.  From 1943 to 1946 he served the US Army in the 799th Military Police Battalion Company D.   In January of 1949 he married Dorothy Hubert of Nederland and together they shared 61 years of marriage.  

Russ was an office manager and was employed by Foster Wheeler Corporation.  The construction jobs he worked led Dorothy and him to travel all over the east coast.  They made friends wherever they traveled. During this time they built a home in Nederland and had four children, Russell, Jr., Wanda, Michael, and Antoinette.  Russ was an active member of the VFW in Nederland in the 1960s and 70s and served as Adjunct and Chaplin.  In 1963 Russ worked for Commercial Metals Company in Beaumont.  In 1971, he and his family left Nederland and moved to Houston where managed the CMC office there.  He retired in 1991.  During retirement Russ loved to work on his stamp and coin collections, wood working and stained glass.  He learned to use a computer and loved email, playing solitaire and cataloging his stamps.  In 2004, Russ and Dot moved back to Nederland where he continued stamp collecting and joined the Southeast Texas Stamp Club.  He was especially proud of his grandchildren and great grand children.  He was a wonderful “Paw Paw” to all of them.

Russ is survived by his wife of 61 years, Dorothy and four children, Russell Paul Jr. and wife, Barbara, of Pasadena; Wanda Nicklebur and husband Jimmy, of Nederland; Michael and wife, Norma of Friendswood; and Antoinette (Toni) Serena and husband, Bob of Katy.  He has five grandchildren, James Nicklebur and wife, Jennifer, Jessica Harber and husband, Bubba, Michael Brignac, Jr. and Nicholas and Charlotte Serena.  He has 7 great grandchildren and two more on the way.  He is also survived by Lawrence Brignac of Garyville; Antoine Brignac of LaPlace; Cecile Louque and husband, Roger of Gramercy; and Marian Adams and husband, Tommy of Baton Rouge.  Preceding him in death was his brother, Francis Brignac of Garyville and his sister, Loretta Guidry of Gretna.
